Don’t worry, we’ll get back to the rest of the gang. I just wanted to visit Anya at work. Poor thing is in the library equivalent of the Principal’s Office. Next time, Mrs. Flintensteel and Anya continue their “talk.”
Happy Monday! We’ll also have some very special treats coming up this week. I think-no, I know you’ll love them.
Sometimes, consequences are no fun…
Biting my nails until Wednesday.
Four or five times a day?
And how would Mrs. Flintensteel KNOW this?
Wait… Oh…
But… really? Anya and her boss?
I was wondering the same thing and that’s the only explanation I could come up with. Also explains Flintensteel’s facial expression. Hmm, probably lots of sparks in that relationship…
Let’s just say that Mrs. Flintensteel has had a colorful past herself. A past we may explore at some point. I think you’ll be amused and surprised.
Love that wood grain on the door in panel 1! The crosshatching on the desk in panel 2… did you free hand that, or use a ruler? If you free handed that, I’m going to throw my pens away and go stand in traffic. Also, I’ve always wanted to know how much penciling you do before you apply the inks? Your inks are really inspirational. The textures, the contrast, the crisp lines… I’m going to have to submit my request for you to make an instructional video again lol.
Oh, man, you’re good for my ego. The desk crosshatching, just like the carpet, is all freehand. It looks kind of wonky because of the resolution. I use a 3 x 0 Rapidograph for the fine work, crosshatching, and most stippling. It’s pretty easy to do once you get the hang of it.
The wood grain is a #8 Micron (the one I use the most). It gives me a lot of different line weights.
Don’t throw your pens away, my friend. You all should know that JW is the creator of the really cool comic, Sweet Dreams are Made of Worms.
Yeah, I noticed the grain on the door too. Charlie does some amazing textures that I really envy him. That first panel kind of makes you feel like you’re eavesdropping, and the angle of it makes it like you really have to go out of your way to do it too.
Hee! Anya has evidently ‘frolicked’ with Ms. Flintesteel (love that name) four or more times a day on more than one occasion. Ah, memories. Methinks, Anya’s elevated ‘frolicking’ to an art form, much to her current boy-toys delight.
Oh dear. I ‘m afraid I didn’t communicate well with this strip.
Mrs. Flintensteel and Anya have never “frolicked” with each other. That would be beyond the bounds of propriety.
Mrs. Flintensteel apparently does have some experience with young men, however… a story we may visit at some point.
It was a bit ambiguously phrased, Charlie, since I drew the same conclusion. There’s really nothing to indicate whom Ms. Flintsteel was reminiscing about frolicking with. Also, much of the humor here is derived from a certain…um…”elasticity” of boundaries, so perhaps we might be forgiven for eagerly rushing off in a particularly hilarious–though incorrect–direction.
I also adore the name “Flintsteel”. If (and only if) she doesn’t already have a first name, I nominate “Fiera”.
I
I think I may have to rewrite a word balloon.
“Elasticity of boundaries.” I like that.
