Oh that Eleanor. Sometimes it’s hard to tell if she’s irritated with someone or flirting (or just showing off).
I gotta say, this was a fun strip to make. Though I had to cut out a dozen or so really fun lines due to space limitations. Oh well, maybe next time.
Eleanor is using the word “macaroni” in the old sense of a, well, “Dedicated Follower of Fashion,” shall we say.
Looks like Edison’s having fun playing along, at least. Though all this talk of her drinking may alarm some of her close friends. And someone doesn’t seem to appreciate Eleanor’s flirting…
Also, some cameos in today’s strip…let’s see… in panel 1, it’s Chester from the wonderful comic “Black Ball,” Taeko Kondou and Yukari Akiyama, both from my current anime obsession, “Girls und Panzer.”
In panel 3 that fetching young lady feeding something to a certain Royal Plumber of Elysium (“The Refraction of Princess Chroma”) is none other than Odessa from “Blighted: the Odyssey.” another wonderful comic that needs to be in your regular reading rotation.
Next time-less sniping, more cameos, and somebody reminds someone of something. That’s all I’ll say for the moment.
Chester looks like he’s about to get into trouble, which is exactly how Chester should look! 😀 I’m so pumped for the first Black Ball character appearance in the Groovy, Kinda world.
Even though I think Edison has something up her sleeve, I really hope she can get out of this party with her sobriety in tact!
Up her sleeve, not under her neck kerchief….
Ahh, Pops, you remember. Yep, Edison’s bite marks are on her arm. But, of course, Eleanor doesn’t know that.
As to her sobriety, well… We’ll just have to wait and see.
Actually, MJ, this is the second Black Ball character to appear. You missed Emily’s appearance as an ice cream vendor here.
But I LOVE the sniping! Deadpan snark is my favorite dialog.
I also love the backless fairy-tale princess look Eleanor is sporting.
With any luck at all, the cure Edison underwent will make alcohol consumption actively unpleasant – unless she’s made of sterner stuff than she’s shown in the past. One can hope.
On the prior page, sometimes one does feel sorry for Miffy. She cures you of that double-damn quick, but one does get a twinge.
Oh boy, did I have fun with the snark on this one. I hope I get to use all the Eleanor snark that I had to leave out of this one someday.
That fairy tale look (not the backless part-that was me) came from an original 1898 book of Charles Dana Gibson (“The Gibson Girl”) art. His humor, his writing, and his art-especially his penmanship-is a great inspiration. You’ll see more of his influence in upcoming strips.
You raise an interesting point, Tru. Did Edison’s treatment on H.M.S. Iolanthe include some sort of alcohol aversion? You know she’s going to be tempted to test it.
I was hoping to get a twinge about Miffy. People may not like her, but I love her, attitude and all. And that’s one of the things I love to do with Groovy, Kinda-make you care for someone you don’t like. They’re all people, after all. Well, most of them.
