THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING ELEANOR
Here’s the first twenty pages of the comic: “The Importance of Being Eleanor.” This is the sequel to “Blue Moon: The Adventures of Lyssa and the Pirates.” Since it’s just the one comic, it’ll probably never see print again, so I thought I’d reproduce it here so you could get to know some of the characters better.
So, Eleanor, Mac (Nelson), Larry, and Toivo all live together in Eleanor’s house. Her great invention, the discombobulationotron, has just been wrecked (if you want to know how, you’ll have to buy the book).
The comic is mostly about Eleanor, though some of the Groovy, Kinda folks make an appearance. The time is about 3 years before Groovy, Kinda begins.
I feel like I’m in the ‘back room’ of a comic shop. Wall-to-wall, floor to ceiling . . . and no filing system (sigh). Oh, and a single flickering flourscent tube overhead.
So, my question is whether ‘The Importance of Being Eleanor’ was paper or web. If paper, should I bother to search for it.
Except for the no filing system, I would love to have a comic shop like that in my town!
“Eleanor” was paper, originally. It’s pretty rare, but well worth looking up (in my humble opinion…).
Charlie, your work challenges my mind, tickles my intellect, and makes me smile.
Every now and then, Bill Holman’s ‘Smoky Stover’ comes to mind. Back then, no one understood the premise. It wasn’t meant to be understood . . . it was a disconnect from reality . . . and I loved it, even before I could read.
It is a wonderful thing when a child becomes addicted to nonsense.

Oh Man! Just got ‘Blue Moon; The Adventures of Lyssa and the Pirates’ delivered Yesterday. Autographed as well (Don’t remember asking for that, but seriously….. Thanks!).
I was only able to skim it as my wife needed to talk to me. (No not THAT kinda talk) I’m going to save it for the weekend and escape to my favourite coffee shop and luxuriate.
So anyways why not make this “Importance of being Eleanor” a downloadable PDF? Yeah I’m old enough to prefer a paper copy and in the UK finding “Rare” comics……
Oh and believable characters, yeah you really nail them Charlie.
Many Many Thanks.
I’m always so taken by how you make textures with lines, dots, squiggles…all by hand! I think the work in this short is particularly well done. Especially Eleanor’s hair, for some reason–it really helps show her emotions.
