Well played, Lawrence. We don’t know if he wants a child. That’s a discussion for a later date.
Of course, if Larry did have a baby for lunch, he might not be the first one.
Can you imagine what Robespierre would do upon hearing there was going to be a “new arrival?”
On a more serious note, I’m going to go on a brief hiatus. Real Life is taking up a lot of time and energy, so I don’t know when I’ll be back on track. I’ll have a new strip up as fast as I can. Just wanted to let you know. Thank you for your patience.
Good news everybody! Thanks to an idea I got from you, next week’s strip is 90% done, and shall be published on time! In it, Stephanie makes a suggestion, while Robespierre makes a mess (there’s a first). Stay tuned!
On a serious in-strip note, Edison would have to stay sober for nine months. Not sure I trust to manage. Not sure what the current medical thinking is about giving birth after age forty. Maybe Anya would be a better choice? Less serious note, Robespierre would be the baby’s fiercest guardian, I betcha, yah he would.
Serious out-strip note: take care of yourself! You’re our only portal into the Groovyverse!
Excellent points all. Would Edison stay sober? Does she even want children? Can she have kids?
I daresay they could go to the Utopiaverse and work something out (for a price).
Anya would definitely be a better choice. Eleanor’s counting on it.
Robespierre? I think he’d be jealous at first. He’d love to lay on Edison’s tummy and feel the baby move. Then terribly jealous when the new arrival came. They’d have to keep him from sleeping on its face.
But then, the magic moment when the baby learns to eat in a high chair and throw food…
I remember our wolf-hybrid shimmying under my daughter’s high chair to feast on the droppings.
Thanks for those kind words. Your portal will devote what little free time he has to creating more views into this crazy world.
Charlie, we will miss you…ifonly for a while. Stay safe, be happy.
As for a sprog, it’s grow up with a very extended family…and if Edison is the future mum, then Anaya and Eleanor might be a bit out of sorts…if only for a while.
Eh, they’ll get over it. Though Eleanor will never stop calling it Eleanor. Edison would probably ban her from ever seeing the sprog, which would lead to some sort of reconciliation between the two. Much to Larry’s relief.
Thank you for the kind words, Chris. Right now I’m working 2 jobs, with some 12-12 hour days. I hit a snag in my writing that led to an Artist’s Block. Though, fingers crossed, I might be over it. When I have time to draw I’ll see.
*nature documentary narrator voice*
Here we see the common Jeffersonian Larrybird, performing his mating dance, a typical approach for the males of his species. This one is courting two females, and thus must dance with extraordinary precision to please both potential mates. See how gracefully this specimen steps around the verbal landmine placed by the white-plumaged female, a feat which impresses the female. Truly outstanding.
My brain read this comment in the voice of David Attenborough. Or maybe Jacques Cousteau.
Edison shouldn’t. Stephanie couldn’t, and Anya –well, Eleanor would not permit it. The only hope I see for offspring is by adoption, but what infant could survive the resulting gauntlet of Edison, Stephanie, and Robespierre? Perhaps they could pick up some Twentysomethings from somewhere?
Now that you bring it up, we probably don’t actually know exactly what the human limits of Stephanie’s hybrid nature are. Scary, huh?
The mind boggles at the concept–and that’s saying a lot for a Groovy, Kinda reader.
Aww, you two.
Stephanie doesn’t have the equipment to carry a child. I was going to say more, but you just gave me a helluba idea. She would be affectionate and attentive, of course. But would she have that certain parental “magic?”
“Edison shouldn’t. Stephanie couldn’t, and Anya –well, Eleanor would not permit it.” Not in the current arrangement, anyway. Remember, Eleanor is trying to get Edison away from Larry so she can marry him to Anya so they can make potential heirs to the Chuckleslovakian throne (sometimes this strip gets complicated).
As far as the child surviving Edison, Stephanie, and Robespierre… That would be a whole comic in itself.
So now we DO actually know the limits! A very rare thing in the Groovyverse — or anywhere else, for that matter.
OH, there are limits in the Groovyverse. But, like any magician, I try to keep them hidden.
A new strip will be great, but I must admit that this is a fine one to re-read on a Monday morning. “Miss Anya did some of those things you said you wouldn’t do unless–” is something that bears much contemplation, imagination, and speculation.
Mmmmmyesss…
Though, given that Anya is Miss Eleanor’s, ah, “pet,” you can bet that nothing Larry might’ve thought up could hold a candle to whatever she’s been through. I mean, enjoyed.
OK, what got into Stephanie’s head? And well played, Larry.
