Good question, Larry. Even if they could trust him, could they trust him not to accidentally tell Eleanor whatever she wanted to know?
And why is Anya in a sweater, poodle skirt, and oxfords? And what is she going to tell Jacob? We’ll find out on Monday!
In the meantime, I got interviewed again! Twice in one year! The wonderful H.M. Jones, author of the novel Monochrome, interviewed me last week, and you can read it here.
Have yourself a great weekend! There’s some sporting event going on Sunday, and everyone around here is quite excited (I’m just across the water from Seattle).
They’re going to an oldies dance?
I don’t really trust either of them to be able to resist their “Mistress” telling them what to do.
I hadn’t thought about the oldies dance! Oh, those social butterflies.
And yes, they don’t have a lot of willpower when it comes to Eleanor. On the other hand, you (and Eleanor) might have a surprise coming up.
Don’t be silly, Larry. You can always trust a man who combs his mustache so carefully.
As someone who had a pencil-line mustache for a few years, I can only agree wholeheartedly with you!
Of course, Snidely Whiplash and Dishonest John might disagree…
They waxed theirs, which disqualifies them. Wax is inherently dishonest except in candles.
I… I’m still a little behind the crowd in understanding why everyone believes that this logic chain makes sense… She pushed her sister through a planar travel device (with what looked like considerable hostility to ME) in order to … become immortal? I … uh … wha’?
~is confuzzled~
Good question! It is kind of confusing-or confuzzling (I like that word).
First off, Eleanor hasn’t been confronted with the accusation that she’s doing this to become immortal. So, we can only take Larry, Nelson, Tovio, and now Anya’s word that that’s what she’s after.
But here’s what Larry & Company know: She pushed her sister Victoria through the discombobulationotron.
If she wasn’t trying to get rid of her permanently, then she wanted Vickie to come back with something. Eleanor wouldn’t just send her away for her own good-it would have to benefit Eleanor somehow.
But what would Eleanor want? Everybody knows that she’s jealous of Vickie’s beauty, and, there are references scattered throughout GK about Eleanor and age.
Eleanor may just have sent Vickie to get a super weapon, or a cure for some disease, or something that would make Eleanor fabulously wealthy. But Eleanor’s pretty rich already, and if she wanted more money she could snare Rad Sampson.
A lot of the supposition is based on Larry, Toivo, and Nelson’s experience with Eleanor. They did live with her for a long time.
And they could be wrong.
hi, I have to ask: When did Eleanor do this to Vicky? Vicky showed up after the dis…the Door was busted. So did Eleanor fixed it long enough to push Vicky through and the Door busted for sure or what?
Anya has not had to make many hard decisions lately, looks she might have too soon. Nice Poodle skirt.
Roughly two years have passed between “The Importance of Being Eleanor” and Groovy, Kinda.
Eleanor fixed the discombobulationotron and pushed Vickie through it about a year after “Importance.”
It’ still worked after that, because later she reached into another world and snagged Stephanie.
The problem is that Eleanor can’t “steer” the discombobulationotron. It just randomly (as far as anyone knows) goes to different realities.
So she hasn’t been able to go back to any of the worlds she’s visited.
And yes, Anya may have to make a difficult decision soon. Well, a few.
Thanks on the poodle skirt. It was fun to draw.
Hi, thanks!! That cleared that up.
So basically the discombobulationotron is like the TARDIS during the First Doctor’s time…
Anya really shouldn’t be this surprised that Eleanor would do something like this with all the stuff she pulls on a regular basis.
I thought Jacob was holding the comb over his face like it was a pretend-‘stache. At any rate, he might be prone to spilling some information, but I honestly think Anya herself is the biggest liability.
Jacob’s combing his “mustache.” Originally the comb was longer, but that really looked like he was modeling a mustache. I should’ve gone farther with his sideways mouth expression.
And yes, since Anya knows more, she’s more likely to tell Eleanor something important.
