Yay! Stephanie to the rescue!
And she probably saved the Dread Pirate Queen Eleanor’s life as well. If she had shot Mancanilla, Caliban would’ve torn her apart, no matter how many bullets her crew emptied into him.
Yay again! Lyssa, Larry, and Eleanor to the rescue! Using their mad blarney skills to terrify Eleanor and save Lyssa’s crew!
So, a happy ending all around!
Well, it may be an ending, or there may be just a bit more. You’ll see!
Just when I thought that Robie couldn’t get any more adorable…. ^^
It’s those big soulful eyes. The Li’l Charmer sure knows how to use ’em.
Also his creative (non-manga) use of tentacles…. ^^
Sometimes it can be a challenge to figure out what he’s gonna do with all six tentacles. One or two hold on to whomever’s holding him, but after that, I just let the Li’l Stinker do what he likes.
The only thing that can beat Eleanor is another Eleanor. But in the end, Eleanor still wins.
As a famous pirate captain once said: “Eleanor always wins. Always. The trick is to control how you lose.”
An even more excellent resolution to the hostage situation than I had imagined! There was a ‘bang’ and there IS a smoking gun, so a sphere of lead is now lodged somewhere…. Will the location ever be relevant?
Oh, and I followed the Mad Blarney Skills link, and vaguely remember the strip it leads to, but have no memory of seeing the older strip introducing Larry to his housemates. I want to know more!!! What was this comic? Where did it run? (College paper would be my first guess.) Have you digitized the rest of it? Is Larry’s family and their employment still canon? (Of COURSE it is! Never know when you may need to consult a pharmacist or crack a keg.)
Thanks, Charlie. I needed a strip like this to salvage my week.
Oh my goodness, Pops! It’s only Tuesday! I sure hope your week improves, my friend.
The comic was called “Nucleaire Romantiques (after one of their band names)” and ran in the Michigan Tech Lode (college newspaper, indeed) back in the Stone Age (the 80s).
While this isn’t quite the first time we saw Larry, it is the first time he was named, and I believe the first appearance of the whole gang (sans Lyssa).
Not all have been digitized, but I have most of them in some form or another, and could scan and post them.
Larry’s family (one older brother, father owns a brewery) is still canon as far as I’m concerned. Maybe I’ll introduce some of his family sometime.
Ahh! You must have mentioned Michigan Tech sometime in the past, as it sounds familiar. I have a friend who’s from Houghton; I think her father was on the faculty, but I’m not sure. I’ve never been UP there myself, but my wife went to aforementioned friend’s wedding earlier in this century. And in the summer of ’77 I had a co-worker who was a student there. Can’t remember her name, but I’d probably still recognize her.
Hmmm…. I might be even older than you are….
Man, small world! Seems like almost everyone knows of or knows someone from da UP, eh?
And I don’t know how old you might be, Pops, but I’ll bet we’re pretty close in age.
Eleanor vs. Eleanor.
And Robbie is adorable as always…
