Good question, Larry.
I suppose it really doesn’t matter. Nothing bad’s ever happened when Edison’s gotten drunk before, right?
Right?
UPDATE: Since Lyssa Strada (the face on the fridge) came up, I thought I’d share the strip where she first moved in to the house:
This will give you an idea of what living with those three was like back in the 80’s.
Well, a good thing happened when Edison got drunk. She met Larry.
Which started this comic!
Charlie, you’re always doing cameos and such, so I’m curious who the “Never Forget” face on the fridge is. It could be Anya or someone else in world, but it could also be a cameo/shout out to someone or something. What is it?
Well, it is the most obvious person in the world. HOWEVER, I don’t remember who.
Oh well, it’s not important. . .now.
That’s Lyssa Strada, star of The Adventures of Lyssa and the Pirates.
She lived with Larry, Toivo, Eleanor, and Nelson back in the day.
She was also the first person to go through the discombobultionotron and disappear.
Toivo put the sign on the fridge to make sure they’d always know that one of their family was out there somewhere.
Even though she was the last to join the gang, she was a big part of their lives.
That’s her, holding Eleanor’s hand, here.
Yet, living with teenagers is something else entirely.
Ok, now, I am confused. Who is living where? I ask this because, I know now that Larry lives apart from the two (three) other guys. Eleanor lives in her house and Edison lives (mostly) in her apartment. Stephanie stays at work?
So were do the guys stay?
I like how Robespierre is waving to Steph.
Eleanor lives in the original house, which she had shipped out from Michigan. At the moment, only Esther lives there.
Larry lives in his house, while Toivo moved out to live with Prospero. Stephanie lives with him, as does Edison, though she still has her apartment. Robespierre splits his time between Larry’s house and Edison’s apartment.
Anya has her lovely little place out in the woods, which she shares with Jacob (for the moment).
We still haven’t seen Nelson’s place, though we may.
Isn’t Robespierre the cutest li’l thing?
I am loving the flashback as a supplement to today’s comic. It’s really fascinating to see the evolution of your style. It’s also great to see that your sense of humor has never left. 🙂
Ahh Lyssa, where would we be without her incarnations in the “Other Books”, or for that matter in that artwork of her and Eleanor kissing you posted away back a while.
Love to see the older work you’ve done, Evolution in Action!
(Bonus points for the book reference)
Oath of Fealty – Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle. A book that noodles through my head on a surprisingly regular basis. I was just talking about it a few weeks ago in the forum for Derelict, as they were arriving at an ocean-based arcology that put me in mind of Todos Santos.
I could see her drinking that whole bottle without even meaning to. Once she’s good and smashed, she might forget her promise entirely. I worry for her–drinking as much as she does can cause some serious health issues. I’d like to think she can control herself, but that’s not likely where alcoholics are concerned.
Are your Nucléaire Romantiques strips collected anywhere, Charlie? (BTW – thanks for the letters of remarque you drew in the front of the Lyssa & the Pirates book. Sweet.)
Not online. It’s one of the many things I swear I’ll get to in my copious spare time.
Glad you liked the drawings in Blue Moon. I try to put a drawing in every book I sell. Just a way to say thank you.
