Not the reaction Larry was hoping for when he wrote that line.
Honestly, I had a much different strip in mind when he threw that one in. I believe I mentioned earlier that sparks may fly very soon…
So, lots of call-backs in this one. Now you can finally find out who imports those yummy Yakutis Melons to Brenizer’s Fine Foods. Speaking of The King of the Underdogs, the mighty talented great guy Michael Yakutis, I wanted to feature his wonderful gift to us from back in 2014. Thank you again, Mike! And, of course, the historic first meeting of Larry and Edison from our very first strip. Wow. That was a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, huh.
“Heaven’s hard drunk” is an expression I picked up from my latest read, Charles Dickens’ “The Mystery of Edwin Drood.” It just seemed appropriate.
And don’t worry-next week’s strip is 90% done, and I’m only working one job this week! Stay tuned!
For the record, I’m with Larry on this one. Edison, it seems, hasn’t learned a thing and frankly they shouldn’t get married if she’s not going to be willing to change her behavior.
I’m with you. Larry’s not asking her to stop drinking, only to be clear-headed when he proposes.
Unfortunately he’s touched a real nerve with Edison.
We’ll see where this leads.
I’m with you and you’re with melaredblu and melaredblu is with Larry….
And I’m disappointed Edison is so dismissive; arguing or changing the subject or cajoling would be more in character, I think. Anyway, if I were Larry, I’d be tempted to try telling Edison that if she starts from sober she’s got a much longer runway to full-on drunk, so the celebration can last that much longer….
Oh, dismissive (and disbelief) is just her first opening salvo.
You make a good point-Larry can try that one out and see how it flies.
