And with that, Dilbert returned to the dorm and James took Edison back to her bungalow.
We’re going to check in on some other characters soon. I have some surprises, and I want to try something new. The next strip may be delayed, but please, stick around!
Oh, and those four lovely ladies in panel two are my attempt at an M9 Girls cameo. If you haven’t started on M9 Girls, check out the link to the right. They’ve just started a new story, so now is the perfect time!
Sleep tight our Silver Haired Princess, Sweet dreams until tomorrow.
Spot on Charlie, Spot On you couldn’t have rounded out that Arc any better than that. I still believe that there’s a lot more yet to come in Edison and Dilbert’s story…A Lot More
Oh, there is a lot more to these two. And you know that better than anyone. But we’ll leave them for the moment.
Edision will indeed sleep tight (as she does most nights) and sleep well. When she gets up late tomorrow afternoon she’ll have a smile on her face.
Poor Alice, on the other hand, will have a hangover of Biblical proportions.
Never ceases to amaze me how you manage to translate other people’s characters into your own style. It takes a special kind of skill to make it appear as effortless a you do.
Aw, you’re too kind.
It’s mostly due to my limited drawing skills, I think.
I try to draw them in the style of their creators, and this is often the best I can get away with.
I will say that you and melaredblu and mjmassey have really taught me a lot about drawing faces-especially noses. I don’t draw them as detailed as you do, and you’ve really helped me work on my faces.
At least Edison has enough sense not to reveal herself as mom. There’s nothing more embarrassing that being seen by your friends when you are hanging out with your mother.
Especially when you’re trying to keep your identity a secret.
Seriously bravo with the cameos 🙂 I just read Vatican Assassins and instantly recognized your take on them for one of those switcheroos we did 🙂
Thanks. I’m finding that these switcheroos are great for my drawing. I get to examine how others draw their characters and settings.
And, once I’ve finally mastered their characters (Or at least made them recognizable), it’s easier to use them as cameos.
Like that Space Marine guy and his poodle who showed up here again.
Space Marine?
Way to confuse a model maker Charlie, thought you’d included a Games Workshop figure in there, for a moment.
Hmm…maybe you could make up a miniature to go with The Demon Archives…
Click, Whirrr, Buzz Now you got me thinking Charlie.
Excellent cameos! Aww I hope they do see each other soon. I like that she played along with Dilbert and didn’t reveal herself as the mom.
A little quick thinking saved a world of explaination.
I just want to toss off a couple of remarks.
First – I’m so happy you’re back to telling “the story” that I really enjoy. The whole vampire Eleanor and Chuckleslovakia side-trips made me feel … a little disoriented. And I’m still not gonna accept your epilogue as canon for a while. 😛
I also want to say that your art is amazing to me. Sometimes in big ways, sometimes in little ways. The way your frame edges are so much a part of the art itself, sometimes. Just … I love this comic and I’m really glad you didn’t go through with the “it’s ended” assertion.
Last – I think I’ve got a crush on James. He’s just bloody perfect, is all. 😀
Hey, Tru!
Thank you for those kind words. For the time being, don’t accept the Vampire Eleanor as canon. I’m working on her story. And another story that I think will surprise you. I’m still in the wrapping up stage-answering questions and explaining some things. We’ll see how long it lasts.
I feel kind of guilty every time I post another strip. Here I announced my retirement and I’m still making comics. I feel like I led people on with all that talk of retirement. And you (and you, and you) all said such nice things and gave me such wonderful art. But, on the other hand. I’m enjoying the strips, and I hope you are too.
I’m glad you like the artwork. It’s still not up to the place it was at during the epilogue, but it’s getting there.
Isn’t James the best? He’s just an all-around competent, nice guy.
To be honest, when you said you were quitting the comic I hoped like hell that it was just “a phase” (it isn’t only teenagers that get them) and that you’d work out all the stresses that combined to make you throw your hands up in despair. You said at the time that this comic had become an obsession and that, I think, was the crux of the problem. I don’t think you can make the obsession “go away” but perhaps you can make it unclench its grip a little bit – let you breathe and get refreshment elsewhere.
Please PLEASE don’t feel guilty at making so many people smile. You have a wonderful comment group here – and there isn’t a troll among ’em. Seriously. I’ve never once seen anyone even post something slightly mean-spirited. I’m sure you’ve seen enough comment sections in your time to realize just how unusual that is. We read Groovy, Kinda because it’s just a really enjoyable piece of work. But it’s a Gift you give us – don’t ever feel like you’re obliged to put something up to feed our cravings. 🙂
p.s. All that fan art you post makes me wish I didn’t draw like crap. You’ve got some TALENTED readers, too. 😀
Ditto!!!
Okay, ah, first let me get this dust out of my eyes…
Thank you again.
I know I’ve said this before, but it bears repeating: Groovy, Kinda has the best commenters of all. You’re what I love most about this strip.
Of course I love my comics-I’m amazed that I can draw and write stuff like this. But it’s your comments that mean the most to me.
You’re right, Tru-we’ve never had a troll. Even when we disagree, we act like intelligent adults. I’m very proud of you for that.
And you’re the main reason why I can’t leave this comic alone. Whenever I think about stopping, I realize that I’ll never have your new comments to read. And that this community will go away. I don’t want that void in my life if I can help it.
As far as the “obsession” goes, well, so far I have it under control. This comic no longer dominates my waking hours. I’m even watching movies with my daughter again (okay, bad monster movies, but it’s still family time)!
Honestly, I think it’s making Groovy, Kinda a better comic. Since I’m spending a little less time on the art, I can spend more on the writing. I’m finally working on story arcs rather than just “winging it (though there’s still a lot of that)”. You’ll see in the upcoming story.
And Tru-if you want to do fan art, for heaven’s sake, do fan art! I’d love to see it! And if you don’t want it shown to the world, that’s fine too. Send it to groovykinda@gmail.com and make my day.
But I have a feeling all your friends here would like to see it too.
Thanks for continuing. Slow rather than none, and that ‘s fine with me.
Agreed that GK is a gift to us, and it is appreciated.
Well, I consider your comments a gift to me, and I really do appreciate them! Thank you!
This was just sweet! Great Edison gets to make some peace with Dilbert.
And, of course I’m loving the cameos!!! The Girls look amazing in GK style! I particularly like Pato’s mischievous gaze.
First the recognition by Alice, then the bar, the meeting, the anger, the making up and now sweet dreams and hope. Charlie you are amazing, both in your tale telling and the artwork. You are giving us so much pleasure. Summing up in a word – THANKS!
Totally into him, indeed. She may adore Larry, but I have no doubt Dilbert is her favorite little man. Hopefully they’ll be able to catch up more in the future, though I suspect he’ll have questions for her.
Also, I’m really diggin’ Disco Stu there and his posse of super heroines.
