Ruh-roh…Reade’s found out that one of Nelson’s pet names is a hand-me-down. Given the number of women he’s been with it was bound to happen. Looks like he’s a man with trouble on his hands. Or maybe… Ah, you’ll see soon!
Sorry this strip was so late. It was a particularly grueling couple of weeks at work, and that street scene took a while. Though it was fun, learning “slope perspective.” Glad this old dog can still learn a few new tricks.
Goose-stepping across her grave?
Your slope perspective is pretty impressive! At some point did you take a month’s sabbatical in San Francisco to practice?
Thank you, Pops! Nope-I wish I could afford to take a sabbatical. But I did live in San Francisco for a few months back in 1980, where I worked at a huge Dalton’s Bookstore and did some prop work for the Magic Theatre.
I just put a couple of perspective points up and made up the rest.
And “a goose just walked over my grave,” for those of you who don’t know, is an old American expression used when one suddenly gets goose pimples (or “duck bumps”). Originally I was gonna have Anya sneeze (because I watch a lot of anime and read manga), but this was more fun and more in character.
Nelson, you dummy.
You’d better think of the most adorable new pet name for Reade, and retire the tainted one sharpish!
A most excellent idea, my friend!
But what could he call her? Anything book related would just remind her of Anya.
Suggestions?
What could he call her?
“Scout”?
(Insert flashback here.)
Perfect!
The slope perspective turned out really nice. Good sense of where everything’s placed in relation to each other.
Thank you, my friend! It took a while to place everything, and I’m happy with how it came out. The cars were the worst.
I really envy artists who have background assistants.
Oh man, Nelson, come on! I’m cheering for you and Reade, don’t mess it up now!
Not only is the slope great, but the cars and vehicles parked along it are also really cool, I like the designs of them.
Thanks, mj! It was a lot of fun to construct. And I need more practice in drawing cars. Fun fact-when I was a lad, I had one of those plastic light tables. The main things I and my friends used to copy were hot rods from Hot Rod CarToons and CarToons (and Super Stock magazine).
Oh, Nelson’ll be allright. Reade waited too long to get him into her life to blow it over something like this.
