Uh-huh.
Writing’s a funny thing. I had a lot of the “Edison & Phyl Go to Rehab” figured out, and I was really looking forward to the personality changes they’d both go through.
And then one day I went for a walk, and it hit me. Phyl dies before she can go through rehab and go adventuring again. I don’t know why, but it felt right. It didn’t feel good-I’ve killed characters before (“Lyssa & the Pirates”) and it’s surprising how much it can hurt.
Sometimes when I do comics I don’t feel like I’m creating something so much as reporting what’s happened. And this is one of those times. I really didn’t want this to happen, but I felt like it would be dishonest to do anything else.
Thanks for reading.

-That means you’re doing it right.
I second that emotion.
I had to go back and read through to see the hints…(“was Miss Sampson’s bodyguard)
I really enjoy your storytelling.
Thank you.
It’s been my experience that Anya’s reaction is very common. I’ve lost family members, and had friends who’ve lost loved ones, and the instinctive reaction is to hug each other.
By the way, if you click on the commenter’s names, you’ll be taken to some pretty cool webcomics.
I’m guessing Anya’s glasses are dead too. Yet she seems to function well enough without them.
