Well, now Edison knows about Reade and Nelson.
But what are she and Reade going to do? Crash the party? Take on Eleanor?
Will cooler heads prevail?
And what “stuff” does Edison need to take care of? Finishing clown paintings? Adding cute puppy paintings?
And will poor Robespierre ever get a meatball?
Ah, you’ll soon see. Yes, you will.
Now would be the time for Reade to realize, if she hasn’t already, that Edison is actually a very nice person at heart. Impulsive and short-sighted, but still.
But hey, if they wanna settle for being rivals, I’ve got a spare bag of popcorn to share.
I think she’s a bit too guarded to let her straight in. This could be interesting though. Whatever mischief these two get up to, I’m sure it will be nothing if not creative.
Remember, Reade still has some issues with substance abuse, courtesy of her ex-wife.
I think that she knows the pirates wouldn’t have a problem with her, and that she wouldn’t be embarrassing Nelson if she went.
But there is a difference between what we know, and what we feel.
Plus, there’s Eleanore…
The Enemy of My Enemy.
You’re just rocking this Charlie, especially Robspierre!
p.s. I just re-read Utopia unlimited…..Tee Hee
“The Enemy of my Enemy is STILL my Enemy.” Just one more target.
Will Reade use Edison to get to Eleanor? Will Eleanor get back at both with either the Rifle or the Grenade or Both? These questions might get answered Soon.
Melodramatic, (ain’t it).
If we do it right!
Then you know what Eleanor is like when she’s free of all social shackles.
The Enemy of My Enemy indeed. We’ll see what they want to accomplish, and how they go about it in the future.
I see that Reade is trying to mix tea with Edison’s……. um, tea.
Good luck with that. 🙂
Maybe she’s trying to keep her “sober” while they figure something out.
Edison thinking sober is like trying to run a Ferrari on soda pop.
I’m having trouble remembering how much Edison actually knows about Reade. I don’t recall her being anywhere nearby during the actual reveal, nor when Nelson put his foot down to Eleanor about Reade. Also, the actual phrasing (plus the significant pauses) of the above comic COULD be interpreted as Reade claiming to be ELEANOR’S “girlfriend.”
I’d love to be able to peek inside Edison’s head right now….
Edison and Reade know about one another. Reade was talking to Larry about Edison here. Nobody knew that Reade and Nelson were boyfriend/girlfriend. Eleanor figured that they slept together, but she’s been too busy with the pirates to inquire into Nelson’s personal life.
Sorry about the confusion. Reade is indeed talking about Nelson.
You’ll get a peek into Edison’s thinking in the next few strips. She’s still got that business to attend to.
You misinterpret me – *I* am aware that she’s talking about being “Nelson’s girlfriend.” I just meant that Edison might have taken her meaning … wrong. Re-read the segue from panel two to panel three as if you weren’t the author, then look at Edison’s face in panel four. 🙂
You make a really good point. Yes, Edison could’ve thought that. I see what you mean.
I think it’s confusing because Reade’s line about Eleanor wasn’t in the original script. In fact, I didn’t put it in until I had drawn the strip and was lettering it. Originally Reade would’ve just said: “…But I don’t know how pirates would take to…” and that would’ve been that. But the Eleanor line really felt right, so I put it in.
So the original strip wasn’t drawn with that line in mind.
Then I had to quickly re-write the whole last panel. Now I have to re-think the upcoming pages.
But that’s the fun of webcomics. You’ve always got to be ready to go with the sudden changes.
One thing I always try to keep in mind when I’m reading a story is the discrepancy between what *I* know, as a reader with access to multiple POV’s, and what the CHARACTERS are aware of.
I don’t think Edison even knows Reade is trans, does she?
Incidentally, I love the faithful attention to continuity – Edison’s black eye is healing in real time. 😀
