Wow, Stephanie. She really surprised me with this one. Way to take a bull by the horns and make hamburgers.
This is another example of me just sitting back and letting Stephanie do the writing. Though the steamroller was my idea.
Funny Example of How My Writing Works: It wasn’t until I was lettering the final panel that I realized why she was doing this.
Stephanie is not going to let a little thing like a major relationship earthquake derail her plans to tell Larry and Edison what kind of humachinal she is. Just, no.
If they have to work things out that’s fine. But it can wait (in her mind). How they’re gonna do it is anybody’s guess.
In the meantime, we’re gonna do something a little different next time. Maybe a lot different. I haven’t finished pencilling it.
But I think it’ll spark some discussing! Can’t wait!
UPDATE: Nope. That comic isn’t happening. I tried something a little different, and it came out terrible. Soooo… no comic this week. I don’t know if I’ll have enough time to do one for next week either. My deepest apologies.
Here’s about the only good thing from the comic though:
I don’t think we’ve ever seen Our Little Stephanie actually take charge before. “Larry, go hijack the Eleanormobile.” And he will. With a dazed look in his eye that gives even Eleanor second thoughts about stopping him.
Oh, and I googlized Brenizer’s Market. Nada. Some secret speakeasy source of succulent steaks? How do I get put on the list of trusted patrons?
Ah, Breneizer’s Market! Where the Cream of the Crop Go to Shop!
…am I missing something? I thought Stephanie totally bought that whopping great lie about what kind of humachinal she is. Either she’s still wanting to press for more information (which is befitting of her programming, I suppose), or she’s telling a whopping great lie of her own here.
She totally bought the story. Author’s error. As Pops pointed out, it should read “reveal.”
I think when Stephanie says “I will solve” she means “I will reveal.”
“Reveal” is the better word. I may have misheard when I trabscribed it.
Or, she’s still new at this detective thing. Stephanie’s never read a mystery.
Just for my personal canon, is humachinal pronounced with a soft “ch” like the machine Stephanie is, a voiced “ch” like Charlie, or a hard “ch” like Christmas? I keep reading it as a voiced “ch”, but that doesn’t feel right. So Word Of God, how it it pronounced? And curse the English language for not having just a single phoneme attached to the letters.
That is a really good question, Opus.
Personalky, I’ve always pronounced it with a hard ‘k,’ like “huemackinal.”
It looks like it should be a soft c, as in “hue-mach (as in machine)-inal.”
When I get home this weekend I’ll look it up in my 1924 Webster’s and give you an authoritative prononciation.
I may have to train my old brain to pronounce it the right way.
