Oh my.
And that’s why they warned you against feeding stray animals.
On a more serious note, Groovy, Kinda is going on hiatus for a spell.* I’m in the middle of an Artist’s block right now, and I need to recharge my creative batteries. It shouldn’t take long, so do check back from time to time.
Thank you. And a special big Thank You to all you great commenters (you, you, and, how could I forget you!). You’re wonderful.
*Edited: Short spell. The Drawing Muse has come back, so Groovy, Kinda will resume on Monday. Thank you for your patience and support. Did I mention that you’re wonderful? Well, it bears repeating.
So, Monday, it’s back to the house and a discovery. Wait, no, two discoveries. Well, three, if you count-oh heck, you’ll see.
We’re going to miss you and your work, Charlie. Thank you so much for sharing your comics with the world. I am going to miss seeing Groovy Kinda first thing on Monday, Wednesday and Friday on my RSS feeder when I drink my morning tea, but honestly your well-being is more important than any comic. I hope that your hiatus gives you the rest and inspiration that you need.
Know that you are in my thoughts and that a lot of people really appreciate your art and stories. Take care!
Aw Vas, that’s so so sweet. I promise I’ll get back as soon as I can so you can have tea with the gang again.
This isn’t exactly a voluntary hiatus. Trust me when I say I don’t want to stop the strips. I just can’t seem to draw right now. It’s coming back, but slowly.
What I’m trying to say is, that you guys are a very big reason why I make this comic, and I really hate that I won’t have that new strip to share with you for a while.
‘Monkey Boy’? . . . The nickname is appropriate, but he’ll have to share it with Frank Cho.
Your art is black and white Beautiful!
HAPPY HIATUS!
“Laugh-a whjile you can, monkey-boy.”
Dr. Emilio Lizardo, The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension, 1984
Thank you! When I come back, I hope the art is even better!
Stephanie’s spine-breaking method of drinking coffee and your brand of humor will be missed until you return.
If we can put in plugs for storylines (maybe help get the creative juices going?), I would love to hear more about this Clown King fellow – it is such a unique storyline compared to anything else I’ve read lately. I know my wife will be disappointed I didn’t put in a plug for funny chickens instead, but those are welcome too.
Well, Anya does make a twice-yearly trip to Chuckleslovakia. She even gets to ride in the royal jet. Makes you wonder…
Is that a quintuple shot vente aztec habanero chile mocha?
Best wishes for the hiatus. Gonna miss Groovy.
With whipped cream!
I’m gonna miss you guys. It shouldn’t be too long. I’ll be back, soon as ever I can.
Hey! I just learned that “Toivo” is the Finnish word for “hope”. Kinda fitting for the character, I think.
I happened across that while looking up “hope”.
And, yeah, best wishes.
Really? Here I’ve known this character for 30+ years, and I never knew that. Seriously. I only knew it from Aino and Toivo jokes (look those up!).
Thank you!
I wonder what Anya means in Chuckleslovakian?
Edited: I looked it up. “Anya” means “dear to my heart.”
I likth Miffy. Get that cat some fith, pronto. Wiff a mouf fulla fangth, how elth would one sthpeak?
Bummer on the hiatus, Charlie, but come back soon, y’hear? Your strip is one of my favorite webcomics.
Thank you! Things are looking good. I’m drawing again, albeit slowly, but I think you’ll be happy with the results.
Glad you settled on “hiatus”. 🙂 The internet would be just a little bit of a drearier place without G,K.
Thanks. I’d miss my postings too. I just seem to be in a better mood on the days when I know I have a new comic up.
The drawing is coming along. In the meantime I’m looking at art books to try new stuff.
Plus, our local Sons of Norway Hall is hosting their Annual Lutefisk Dinner on Saturday, so that’ll give me the strength to carry on for another year! Maybe that’s all I needed.
I forget whether this has been covered or not. Where is “Groovy, Kinda” located?
Groovy, Kinda is set in the little town of Innesmount, in the mythical state of Jefferson. It’s the home of Sampson Enterprises, the area’s largest employer.
Eleanor, Larry, Toivo, Nelson, and Lyssa Strada all went to college together in Upper Michigan. When Eleanor was hired at Sampson, she moved her entire house out West. Everyone else followed her lead. They all lived in the house together for a spell. That’s where the discombobulationotron was perfected.
“Just remember, no matter where you go, there you are.”
Stephanie is probably the only Groovy character who would accept this as a valid concept. The alien ‘Johns’ from The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension certainly do.
This movie is a hilarious homage to the plot discontinuities discovered when a saturday morning movie serial is spliced together into a feature. I remember all to well “Radio Ranch” and the Thunder Riders starring Gene Autry (a si-fi western . . . really).
I’m too old for my life . . .
Naw, I think it just makes you perfect for the Groovy, Kinda demographic.
“Buckaroo Banzai” is one of the most quotable movies ever (just behind Monty Python and the Holy Grail and Army of Darkness).
Hey, Sci-Fi westerns are cool! I still want to use the idea of “Cowgirls of Venus” in a comic sometime.
It’s also an homage to Pulp Heroes like Doc Savage.
The ones who had multiple PHDs and an adrenalin addiction.
There’s a bit of that in one of Larry’s and Edison’s favorite movies: “Teenage Beach Monster Hullabaloo.” I’m referring to Rod “Cruncher” Bombora, the renegade starship commander.
Glad to hear GA will be returning to us! Don’t burn yourself out, though, Charles. Nobody likes a cartoonist gone mad, lol. It’ll result in something from the pages of R Crumb! But then again….most people love him. So I guess madness IS a good thing….
Keep on truckin’!
GA??? wft…. gK. K!!
Groovy, Actually?
… Muppet-girl is annoying.
