Love the Robespierre finger (tentacles) crossed cameo. Man you can really feel his “Ooooh” demeanour.
He’s not exactly sure what’s going on, but he can tell from the tone and volume of the voices that it’s serious.

Haven’t seen that one. I thought that that was what you meant, but I wasn’t sure.
I can neither confirm nor deny my “rightness” with Jesus. You’d have to ask Him.
It’s an easy thing to forget when you’re drunk for several years.
Yeah, you know, what with waking up in strange places, sometimes with strange people, and trying to make enough money to keep a roof over your head and booze on the table, you tend to let the little things slide…
Well, I mean, I guess that’s kind of inevitable at this point. I hardly think either of them want to get back together after all that’s happened.
Does…does Larry know she never divorced this person? If he does, I must’ve missed the page where he learned it. I kind of wonder if knowing this would bother him–he’s pretty accepting of Edison, but this is a serious issue.
Eleanor told him flat-out that Edison had a husband and a son. And it was clear from the phrasing that it wasn’t an “ex-husband.” This was right around the Hindenburger storyline. So yeah – he knows.
Yep. They had this discussion, or at least some of this discussion, over their anniversary dinner.
Good on her. Kind of. This is the right thing to do, and I suppose I get why she had to drink herself some courage. Still, it’s not cool to do this drunk. She’s had the practice but hearing someone you used to love slur those kinds of words can’t be easy.
I’m seeing a lot of pain in Philo’s facial expression in panel four, regardless of the flippant response in the next panel. They did have, I think, a happy marriage for at least a few of the years they spent together. Plus they created a wonderful son, who loves them both.
But Philo is understandably bitter and very angry. I don’t know if we’ll see in on screen, but I suspect some hostile flare-ups at Alice and Dilbert after the call when he finds out that BOTH of them met Rosemary at the college. And said nothing to him about it.
I don’t know who the other lady is, though the “family photo” hanging in the hall makes her position in the family pretty clear, but I hope she’s got a lot of patience and understanding for dealing with this for the next little while. She’s going to need it.
Gods, I wish Edison wasn’t such a coward when it comes to her first life. But I suspect she feels an almost lethal dose of shame when she remembers clearly, and so she doesn’t want to. I agree that this was “the right thing to do,” though she’s managed to muck it up a bit.
In a way – you have two completely separate webcomics going on here – all contained neatly in one place. Day in, day out silliness on the one hand, and serious painful human frailty on the other – sometimes in the same page. Gotta love it. 🙂
Thank you. Even though they both saw this coming, it’s the end of a major time in both their lives. And there’s no more pretending or hoping-this is getting hit with the reality stick.
Philo might flare up at Alice and Dilbert if he finds out. But he’ll probably just be so emotionally drained that he’ll forgive them right away. After all, he’s just been presented with something even bigger than a simple hiding of facts.
We’ll be hearing from Philo’s significant other in a while.
Edison has lot of feelings about this. More shame than she can comfortably rationalize over, to be sure. She knows she’s caused a lot of pain. She and Dilbert probably spent a fair amount of time talking about it. In fact, it was her time with Dilbert that spurred her on to calling Philo. Once she actually saw her son in the flesh, she realized that she needed to finish what she’d started.
And you’re right, Tru. It does feel like two different strips with the same cast occasionally.
Sometimes this strip is silly, and sometimes it’s tragic, and sometimes it’s both.
I’m just trying to tell these people’s stories. Boy, do they have stories to tell. Gotta love it.
It’s a real testimonial to Philo’s character that he wasn’t able to say “I already divorced you in absentia for abandonment.”
No matter how ready she was to make the break herself, learning that she had already been rejected would have been devastating.
Philo has his reasons.
And yes, it would’ve been devastating to finally get up the nerve to say: “I want a divorce,” and have Philo reply: “I divorced you last year. Didn’t whoever tell you about Sammy tell you that too?”
I suppose confronting her ex about a divorce while drunk is better than not confronting him at all. Baby steps…
Easier over the phone. In person, well now, that’s a different thing. She’d want to have most of her wits about her.

Talking to the ex she deserted, possibly betraying her seeing her son, and worrying about going to the barbeque later. All while plastered. That’s enough for anyone to worry about.
