Welcome back! After two and a half months, a long move, new job, new digs, no computer, and various other happenings, I’m overjoyed to say we’re back!
How I’ve missed you. It’s been far too long. Never fear, I’ve got more strips in the can, so we’ll be back to a regular weekly schedule. I know I should have waited till Monday to post this (Merry Christmas!) but I just couldn’t wait.
The gang’s all here! It’s the Thursday night Tunnels and Troglodytes (Trolls? I’m still working on it. Any suggestions?) game. With Jacob! You’ll remember that his character and Pyenor the Barbarian don’t exactly get along. That’s okay, because someone’s going to try to interrupt this game. Will they be successful?
Guess that all depends on who sh-I mean, they are. And how they go about it.
Stay tuned!
How real, or fictional, do you want the game to be?
Tunnels and Trolls is the second oldest RPG commercially produced. And, it’s still going strong, with the second printing of the current edition expected for next year. It’s the major influence for many JRPGs, like the original Final Fantasy games, as it was the first Table Top RPG to make it over there. Tunnels and Troglodytes was a rejected name for it. Later games, like RuneQuest/Call of Cthulhu/BRP, Traveller, and GURPS all trace there lineage through T&T.
So, if you want a real game from the era, that wasn’t D&D, it’s a good choice. But, it doesn’t use “funky” dice. It’s all D6s. Lots of them. Buckets of dice.

I’m not coming off as too partial, am I?
Partial? Well, maybe a little. But on the other hand, I’ve been looking to start up an old D&D Game-version 1, like I started with back in the Bronze Age. Now you’ve got me rethinking.
And as someone who’s worked in libraries for almost 20 years, I appreciate your thoroughness in research and delivering information. Thank you for this! I’m gonna check out some of those forums.
To answer your first question, I want the game to feel real and relatable, but I want it to have a fictional name. So we need to come up with a D & D ish title that isn’t already taken.
Bastilles and Basilisks maybe? Any suggestions?
My wife just suggested ‘Bustiers and Broadswords.’ Or ‘Rapscallions And Rapiers’.
Both good! I like the Rapscallions especially.
Welcome back. Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas Robert! I’m so glad I could get this strip up in time for the holidays.
Ach, Edison, I hardly knew ye! 🙂
Welcome back Charlie. It’s the best Christmas present I’ll get this year. 🙂
It’s good to be back, and it’s better to hear from you, D-v! Merry Christmas!
And who is this “new, sober Edison?” She’s still surprising me. Just wait till you see what she does in the next couple of strips. She’s got a surprise up her sleeve.
Well, when she’s wearing a sleeve. I can say no more.
Ho ho ho!
Giant chickens make everything better!
Welcome back, Charlie!
You got that right, brother. It’s great to be back!
With all the “welcome back” messages, I’m expecting Mr Kotter and the Sweathogs to put in an appearance.
It’s nice to see you again, Charlie – thanks for the Christmas gift of a fresh G,K!
Oh, To Old To Be Cool, be careful what you wish for. I know a special someone who knows more “Welcome Back Kotter” trivia than anyone.
I’m so glad to see you back too, old friend! And it looks like there’ll be a New Year’s Day strip as well!
Up our noses with rubber hoses!
Boxing Day and this is my morning surprise. Welcome back – hope you had a great Chrstmas, Charlie. A sober Edison? Look out Larry, and Eleanor as well.
Oh Chris, you know Edison all too well. Wait till you see what she does to this game. And after. I can say no more.
Except Merry Christmas and Happy Boxing Day!
Great to have the gang back, starting with you Charlie. (*)
A sober Edison, OhLaLa…….
‘There may be trouble ahead,
But while there’s moonlight and music and love and romance,
Let’s face the music and dance.
Before the fiddlers have fled,
Before they ask us to pay the bill,
And while we still have the chance,
Let’s face the music and dance.
(*Where you moved to Charlie? Or can’t you say)
For a second I thought that was Chris Rea’s “Let’s Dance.”
I’ve moved to somewhat sunny Northern California. Mendocino County. It’s beautiful. Wild California coast and towering redwoods.
Aw, dang. Here I moved from Northern California (San Francisco) to Southern Cal just last August. Welcome to NoCal, here’s your umbrella.
Thanks! So far, not much rain. Nothing compared to back up in wet Washington.
I’m lovin’ it though. I may post some pictures!
Here come the deets…
