Poor Lyssa. Still hasn’t gotten over having to clean up Eleanor’s car (which she borrowed after the party, as you remember).
There may be other repercussions from Edison’s, ah, accident. We shall see what we shall see.
And, as the creator of Groovy, Kinda, let me just say how much I love Stephanie in hats. I really need to put her in more hats.
Coming up next: it’s Boy Time! Will hijinks ensue? Stay tuned!
Part of me wants to know about the beets. The majority of me thinks that part is weird an insane for wondering.
Nothing to wonder about: beets is beets, good pickled, plain, buttered, or dunked in gravy. Just don’t get beet juice on a white shirt.
I’m wondering about “cow pokers.” Has Stephanie been listening to Guadacanal Diary’s one-hit wonder on the oldies station?
I picked beets ’cause beet chunks in a Gallon ‘o Gravy (Extra Chunky) was the most off-putting thing I could think of.
Beets. Turnips, Kohlrabi. They’re all good, if you know how to prep ’em. Gravy probably isn’t ideal for any of them, but worth a try.
Off-putting? Well, I suppose it was pork gravy, so maybe so….
Pork, beef, goat, lamb, octopus… who knows?
I love Stephanie’s ‘tache.
Thank you! Only Stephanie could carry off a gravy ‘stache.
Hehehe… “Cow pokers.”
Oh, and I fully support the hat initiative. More hats for sure.
Okay, okay. I need the practice anyway. More Hats for Stephanie it is!
Compliments again. Every time I look at one of your comics my eyes are pleased with what they’re seeing. It’s no one thing – it’s all of it. I love the way your frames are frequently part of the story. I love the clean-ness of the lines. I love that your characters change their clothes routinely. I love that I always know who each character is – even though they’ve changed pretty substantially from the earlier portion of this comic. (Was looking at “Just Testing” http://groovykinda.org/comic/just-testing/ because I love that particular image of early Edison) I love the juxtaposition of really complicated bits of drawing right next to large empty spaces. I like how you can convey expressions by not drawing parts of the face and I would normally consider necessary. I like how your fabric looks like fabric, including weird folds that just look natural. MORE HATS!
I like the humor, I like the sideways veers you wander off into, I like the oddball words you find, I just …
I just fracking adore this comic.
So there.
Awe, Tru, thank you for those kind words. I can’t tell you how much they mean to me.
It’s funny you should mention the frames being part of the story. My comic reading alternates between 1950-60s newspaper comics (with a current binge on Mike Curtis’ run on the current Dick Tracy) with manga (currently Genshiken Nidame), and whichever one I’m reading really influences my art. Credit Genshiken for that first panel.
Wow-I went back to “JUST TESTING,” and, my goodness, how Edison has changed! I love her look back then, and golly, I could kind of draw brown hair in those days! It probably wouldn’t hurt to do a binge read of my own comic again…
Okay, I could go on, but I’m gonna just sit back and beam with pleasure for a bit. Thank you again, Tru.
I just frackin adore you. And you. And, of course, you too.
Tru dat.
