Oh my. Sober Edison is playing with fire. What’s with our girl? Is this how she used to be? Killroy certainly thinks so. Of course, he knows her from her younger, Dick Tracy days, when she had a taste for, ah, the criminal element. We’ll just have to see where she’s going.
Speaking of Dick Tracy, it’s up! Check it out, and do let me know what you think.
Oh man, now I really want to learn color. I’ll never be as good as Team Tracy’s colorist, Shane, but still…
Let me give a big Thank You to Team Tracy for everything; Mike, Joe, Shane, and especially the mighty Shelley. Y’all are the greatest!
Oh, and I wanted to show the Tracy Folks and you a page that we ultimately didn’t go with. This is my idea for Scarmony’s kidnapping of Mysta:
I have an inked version, but I thought you’d like to see the pencils. Too bad we didn’t have room for this. Reade Turner would’ve appeared in a Dick Tracy strip!
Next time, Stephanie expresses herself, Larry looks smug, and Eleanor throws the ball into someone’s court. Stay tuned!
Congrats on your Dick Tracy strip! I checked it out earlier and it looks really great.I’m so excited for you! 🙂
Oh Edison, come on! Don’t do this to Larry!
Thank you, mj!
Yes, Edison, stop playing with fire. Enjoy and work on the wonderful relationship you have, you knucklehead.
So the Dick Tracy Minit Mystery strip looks like a Dick Tracy strip, but it also looks like Charlie drew it. How is that possible? Sam in the Sunday strip looks especially like a Wise Guy — something about the angle of his head and the way he holds his hands. Add to that the fact that it’s clearly Tracy eating the jelly donut…..
As for the Groovyverse, the Edison in the last panel is the Edison we all know and love.
ps: Killroy’s nipple ring is an authentic — I almost said nice but thought better of it — touch.
Thank you Pops! Dick Tracy was an interesting experience. I was looking at the mighty Joe Staton’s wonderful art for the characters and the feel of the strip, and my style kept coming through. You can see the styles merging as the strip went on and I learned so much.If it helps, I drew the three Sundays first, then the dailies.
That is indeed the Edison we all know and love. She’s a bit extra-smexy for the Dick Tracy readers. Many of them seem quite enamored of her. Can you blame them?
Is Edison being serial about this?
It would appear so-one after another…
Charlie the Dick Tracy strip is great, and Pops is right – you’re fingerprints are all over it, so you’re copped.
As for Edison, and given Kilroy’s lack of covering, I suspect she’s having her fling, is this a sort of ‘hen night’ before coming down to earth? Who knows – does Edison know? Will all be revealed – we’ll I’ll just have to watch this space.
“Will all be revealed…”
Only if Charlie puts up a password protected page.
Hmmm… password protected page… that’s an idea…
Anyway, stick with the Dick Tracy for the run. I drew the three Sunday strips first, then the dailies. As I got more familiar with Joe’s art style, it merged with mine. I think the last few dailies show the Tracy folks in my style the best.
And thank you for reading!
Stick I will.
On a different topic (but posted here because I couldn’t find the On-A-Different-Topic tab) I’ve got a whole lot of urgent work to get done so I’ve been wandering through the G,K archives at random. I can’t find one of my favorite characters, or even remember his name — he’s short, turns up randomly in Building 7, and speaks entirely in proper nouns.
Ah, I believe you’re referring to that li’l scamp Konot, who first appeared in Groovy, Kinda here.
He’s an original crewmember of HMS Iolanthe, and he has some fun scenes in “Utopia, Unlimited” I & II.
Good luck with the urgent work! I’ve been pulling down massive overtime these past few weeks myself. But, there’s still time to post another strip this week!
Mos’ ‘preciated.
Heya, Charlie. Sorry I haven’t commented in a while. I retired back in January (more or less) and since then I’ve just barely looked at any of my favorite webcomics (and you’re in the top three). On the other hand, while you were busy with the Dick Tracy universe you weren’t posting much here, so at least I didn’t miss anything.
Edison does irritate the crapola out of me from time to time. I know it seems that she and Larry have an “open relationship” but up until now they’ve sorta kept it to a close circle. But I’m remembering now back when she was having her memory dream of when she was still Rosemary, her attitude could best be described as … no – I hate that word, I need a substitute … uhm … “indiscriminate.” There. That’ll have to do. I can only remember Larry standing up to her once before. I’d like to see a little more of that.
And now, to digress. I’m really glad you are safe and well, Charlie. So far my state is near the bottom of the chart for total cases (511/9 as of the most recent chart) but I’m still uneasy about leaving the house. I’ve been to Costco once and the grocery store 3 times since mid-February. And now I’m required to have a mask and I have no clue where to get one locally. Safeway doesn’t carry them and I don’t GO anywhere else. Sigh. And I don’t have any scarves or hair bands or useful underwear (the internet has some really ODD ideas for how to make a mask…)
First off, Tru, I’m so glad to hear from you! Congratulations on your (more or less) retirement. I hope you have the time and resources to do all the stuff you want to.
I agree with you on Sober Edison. I love her dearly, and it’s upsetting to see her do stuff like this. The Mighty Hjels was on to something when he suggested that she’s swapped other addictions for alcohol. Sobriety hasn’t helped her self-destructive streak. Let’s hope she gets out of this trip relatively unscathed. Probably will-she’s mighty lucky.
As far as Larry standing up to her, do you mean this time? It might be time for another talk.
I might be able to hook you up with a mask or two. I’ve got one, and my sister is making some.
I work in an essential store myself. We’re supposed to practice social distancing, but it’s impossible in our position. So far, my county (pop. 200,000) has only 132 cases, so we’re pretty lucky.
You take care, and let us know what’s going on. Remember, the Groovy, Kinda commenters are the best around, so drop a line often.
Wait-masks made out of underwear?
Darn it, Edison, Larry’s not the only person who could be hurt by this! And even if that were the case, that wouldn’t diminish the fact that what you’re doing just ain’t cool.
