And so, everything is proceeding according to plan. What’s the plan? Only Eleanor knows, and she’s not the kind of supervillain to confess it to anyone. But you’ll see it unfold (or not. Sometimes her plans don’t work. Honest. There was this one time…).
So I tried an experiment. That background in panel two is taken from an old book on Victorian architecture. I’ve been reading a lot of newspaper comics (The Heart of Juliet Jones, and Mary Perkins, On Stage. Both amazing) and they used to Xerox photos and use them as background. I don’t think it worked quite as well as I had hoped, but hey, nothing ventured…
Next time, we’re gonna jump ahead to the next morning, and you’ll see… well, you’ll see.
Hm… Who, pray tell, is under the console? Someone with the necessary technical expertise. And, yet, also someone that El would monologue in front of…
Someone who spends a lot of time in the control room. And wears hats.
Hey, I like panel 2, and you didn’t even have to draw the building 😛
Thank you so much, Dreamy! I’m glad it worked.
The classic realist newspaper comic artists would Xerox a photo, crank up the contrast, and either just paste it in or draw line work over it. I didn’t have the facilities for the line work, so I just played with it digitally. Maybe I’ll try it again sometime.
And welcome to the Groovyverse!
Aw, shucks, wasn’t expecting a word from the artist! I’m the lurky sort who devoured Xxxenophile and Shanda and more back in my younger years ^_^’
Keep up the great work, man
Good artists borrow, great artists steal. Same goes for architects and cartoonists. Just don’t run afoul of intellectual property laws….
Sage advice, Pops.
Sometimes it’s borrowing or stealing, and sometimes it’s called “inspiration.”
