IF AT FIRST YOU DON’T DECEIVE
Whoa.
We knew Eleanor was afraid of Stephanie. Because she’s the only one who’s seen Stephanie in her original world when she was an interrogation humachinal. Looks like they may have dodged a big bullet on this one.
And things aren’t as smooth as Stephanie would like between Edison and Larry. That may take a while.
On the nice side, we learned something new about Robie. Maybe being warm is his version of purring.
Also, Eleanor’s opening line is one of my favorites from Gilbert & Sullivan’s “The Gondoliers.”
UPDATE: Well, as you can see, there’s no new strip again. Writer/Artist block. My Writing Half can’t come up with something my Artist Half can draw.
I did manage one panel from my last attempt:
Maybe next week. In the meantime, thank you for your patience.
Whoa, indeed.
This installment requires some unpacking and a fair bit of trying to recall how exactly we got here. And why is Cap’n E sneezing?
I’ve only seen The Gondoliers once, and that decades ago. If you know of any upcoming productions please alert me! It was a rather jaundiced view of egalitarianism, as I recall, with everyone shining each other’s shoes.
Our Story Thus Far: Eleanor knows Stephanie’s true identity. She was there when Stephanie came into the Groovyverse. There must’ve been something more to scare Eleanor so.
What that is shall remain a mystery for now.
Cap’n E (or Cap’n Easy, according to our Eleanor)’s sneezing is a lift from Japanese culture. You sneeze if someone’s talking about you.
I’ve seen some G&S, but not that one. It is a rather jaundiced look at egalitarianism. Rather expected, given the times.
Sneezing is a sign someone is talking about you? I must suddenly get very popular every Springtime….
I used to get popular every late Summer/Early Fall.
People must’ve talked about me a lot when I would mow the lawn.
Eleanor’s opening dialog is great.
Thanks, man!
“Well…this is awkward.”
That right there is the understatement of the century, and also the most accurate way anybody could ever sum up the situation those two have found themselves in.
Thank you! That was totally Edison. Just one of those lines that popped up all perfect.
Well, at least she’s still enamoured enough to want to have a threesome.
The frame with Elenore and Steph together reminds me of when my southern mother was talking to her least favorite person while in line at the grocery store. All smiles and politeness, but with a deadly subtext of “screw me over and you will hang first”. But I could be wrong….
That’s kind of the vibe Stephanie’s giving off. Though, being Stephanie, it’s a much gentler kind of thing. More kidding, like.
Of course, Eleanor, knowing what Stephanie really is, is terrified.
Happy Monday! Happy crosshatch, too, even if we have to write our own narrative and dialogue to go with the artwork.
I don’t suppose there’s any way your devoted (committed?) fan base could throw together an ongoing fan-fic-flavored stew of plot ideas and sketches and scribbles and alternative collaborative elaborative non-linear contributions that you could post on dry Mondays?
I dunno Pops. Don’t ever underestimate the best commenters a comic creator could wish for.
I think it’s a fabulous idea!
What if we used the Comments section over in the Gallery for the time being? We (you) could post ideas, sketches, etc. over there until I can get someone who knows how to work computers to make another section.
Hmmm. Now I guess I gotta go doodle something.
While you do that, I’ll get ready to post a new strip Sunday!
You must’ve inspired me. Again, my friend.
Hmm, as far as Eleanore’s trepidation about Stephanie goes, it occurs to me that in some circles there is a very fine line, indeed, between interrogation….
….and bring-out-the-hot-irons torture.
And she never heard Stephanie say this.
