Uh-oh, looks like Eleanor’s got her hooks into Anya again. What will this mean for our intrepid rag-tag band of heroes and heroines? Only time (and me) will tell.
Here in America, we’re honoring a great American, Dr. Martin Luther King.
And we’re also celebrating the 2nd birthday of Groovy, Kinda! We started just 2 years and 335 strips ago. Who’da thought we’d last this long. 2014 is shaping up to be an amazing year. The First Ever Webcomic Underdog print book (with an exclusive 3 page Groovy, Kinda story) is at the printer’s, and I found out that I’m going to be on a panel at Emerald City Comic Con! I’ll keep you posted.
And thank you for your support for all these years. I’ve met some really great people through Groovy, Kinda. And I’ll do my best to make the best comic I can.
And, can you guess today’s cameo? It’s Uncle Thirteen, from Uncle Robot Presents!
UPDATED UPDATE: No comic Thursday either. Sorry.
“You’ve really got your hooks in me, don’t you dear? / Then will you have me roped and tied…”
…sorry.
Um…I’m not positive, but I think it should be “whose” in panel 4.
Huh? I don’t know what you mean. It always said “whose.” I would never make a mistake like that.
Seriously, thank you. I should’ve done my homework. Never be shy about pointing out things like that. I really appreciate it.
That clown looks like favorite clown of all time. His name was Willikin and he performed at my birthday from Kindergarten to Fourth grade. He was fantastic. I am so delighted to Robespierre again. I would love to see his painting.
And congratulations you wonderful gent. Best of fortunes with the book and the con panel. That will be great! 😀
Looks like my registration worked and now I can comment!
“I really like your comic” but “I don’t like what that character is doing.” ;P
Actually I haven’t read your comic yet. 335 strips is kind of intimidating. Is there a nice summary of earlier chapters or do I just need to dig in?
Let’s see…
Edison’s an alcoholic who Larry met 334 strips (and a week and a half) ago. Since then, they’ve fallen in love, had dinner in a zeppelin, and Edison’s moved in, along with Larry’s co-worker, Stephanie Rossum, who’s a robot. Larry is an engineer at Sampson Enterprises.
Edison also went on a date with Anya, Larry’s friend, and they made love, but they’re just friends.
Anya used to be the love slave of Eleanor, and it looks like she still has feelings for her, even though Anya’s living with Jacob, the 15 year old boy who used to be one of Eleanor’s playtoys.
Eleanor has a thing called a discombotulationotron, which can go between realities. She pushed her sister, the Famous Supermodel Victoria, who used to be the love of Larry’s life, through it, and now it looks like she wants to get her back. Everyone thinks Eleanor’s has a plan to become immortal.
Stephanie came through the discombobulationotron. She lost a lot of her memory, so she doesn’t know what kind of a robot she really is.
Also their friend Lyssa went through the discombobulationotron a few years back, and wound up the captain of a pirate ship. You can read that story in the graphic novel “The Adventures of Lyssa and the Pirates.”
The cute li’l guy/gal/thing is Robespierre, who showed up in a box of Chinese takeaway. Nobody knows what he/she/it is yet.
Edison abandoned her family a couple of years ago after doing something terrible, and now her son is coming out to go to college, so she’s excited to see him again.
Okay, help me out. What did I forget?
You forgot about Phyl… 🙁
Oh, yes, right. Phyllis Sampson, wife of Rad Sampson, head of Sampson Enterprises. Friend/love of Eleanor. Alcoholic friend of Edison Lighthouse. Kidnapped by Brungarian* agents, and forced to retire upon her return.
Suddenly passed away. No reason given.
*Chuclkeslovakia, where Anya is originally from (war orphan) used to be under the thumb of the hated evil smelly awful Brungarians, before it gained its freedom about 35 years ago.
Tovio, clowns, and The Importance of Pudding. Actually, any summary pretty much sucks the joy out of things–rather like saying that The Odyssey is “A bunch of Greeks take a cruise”. Yes, the trip through the archive will be a long one, but your funny bone will thank you.
Is Robespierre copying Edison’s painting, or is he/she/it depicting her back?
We’ll have to wait and see what he/she/it’s painting.
But I will say he/she/it’s copying Edison’s pose in the first panel, and mocking her in the third.
…well. That sort of didn’t really help at all 😉 I may just have to start from the beginning.
Huh? Didn’t help, you say? It made perfect sense to me!
By the way, DaemonDan is one of the geniuses behind the great webcomic: The Demon Archives. It’s another great one to add to your reading list!
Ah, shucks Charlie, you’re too kind. Maybe someday I’ll be groovy enough to make it into your side bar 😉
And actually the sum up you made is pretty good. If it had pictures of everybody, then I’d probably be set to start at the latest chapter or so.
Consider it done.
You’re just under “The Black Mudpuppy.”
Plus, there’s a “The Players” page, with pictures of the Big 4 (Larry, Edison, Anya and Stephanie).
Ooh double thanks. That really is helpful.
Oh no, Anya… You were doing so well! Or rather, well-ish. I was hoping she wouldn’t fall back under that spell. It’ll be interesting to see what Edison means with that last comment though. If she’s duped, or sees through her.
Edison’s not fooled for a minute. That’s why she pretended she didn’t know anything about Eleanor’s plans.
Anya mentioning Eleanor gave the game away. Of course, Anya might’ve known that it would…
You don’t suppose that Anya has seen where her allegiance should truly lie – with Team Pye – and she’s setting up Eleanor to take a fall?
Anything is possible.
One thing to consider: Has Eleanor told Anya what it’s all about?
The Hokey Pokey – that’s what it’s all about.
Eleanor knows that it did NOT work. She had expected to catch Edison in a more drunk state, Eleanor is many things but trusting is not one of them.
“Tangled Webs..etc”
Hmmn the thickening plot indeed.
Nice to see my favourite side character appear again. Charlie, it always amazes me that you can put soo much character and expression into Robespierre.
Grumbles….. Sorry about double post had a stupid moment while multi tasking! Yes I know, I just proved men can’t do it!
It’d be interesting to see wht the little fella’s painted as well.
I have officially caught up on Groovy Kinda 🙂 I’m only kinda confused now 😉
Then you’re doing it right. There are many unanswered questions, Young Jedi.
Ask away, and either I, or one of GK’s fine commenters (you, you, and-don’t be shy, you) will do our best to illuminate your path.
