Okay, now I’m mad. I didn’t think what Anya was doing was appropriate, but at least she showed some concern for his well-being and wanted to deal with the problem. If Eleanor gets him, I can’t imagine what she’ll do. Come on Anya, don’t let her get away with this! You must have something up your sleeve to get him away from her!
Only time will tell.
Even though Eleanor is acting a little better toward Esther-taking her to hang out with her friends-she’d wouldn’t be as good a…what, guardian? as Anya.
I would add “loaded for bear.”
Eleanor is a firm believer in Overwhelming Shock and Awe when it comes to negotiations. Those of you who’ve read “Lyssa and the Pirates” know what she’s capable of.
Whoa! I may not be her biggest fan, but you simply have to admire that kind of political ninjitsu. She is quite simply stone cold unflappable.
Always a step ahead, and never allows herself to be outmanuvered. She’s terrifying. And terrible. And that’s more than a little sexy. But terrible. Terrible!
My goodness, Eleanor pulled a Ted Nugent. Isn’t that just charming.
I hope that Jacob has enough sense to get to a judge and ask for emancipation, or better yet throw Eleanor’s ass in jail. Then again, considering the small town politics, that’s probably not going to happen. >:(
It depends on the Judge. If He or She heard what he (Jacob) and Anya have been doing. Well, let me put it this way, if she has any Diplomatic Immunity, that would be the Only thing keeping her out of jail and/or deported with prejudice. Mom and Dad would not be happy.
Hahahaha! So all those protestations of undying love and rapturous smoochings were merely set-up for a hammer blow. Charley, you magnificent scoundrel, you’ve done it again! I did not see that coming.
Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me; fool me on a regular basis, and I’m probably reading Groovy, Kinda. If this is an example of what you can do at two posts a week, never go back to three. 🙂
Idle remarks before I go to bed….
Trying to determine what words are hidden in Panel 1 – given the word fragments I CAN see, all I can come up with is “whatever it is that you(r kind d)oes.” Which is a god-awful thing to say.
Panel 5 has Anya sandwiched between two eye-glassed female profiles, though I’m having a hell of a time figuring out what the left hand image is hiding most of her lower face with. It’s patently Eleanor, but wtf? And while the right-hand image looks like Eleanor in shape, unless you’re just doing something philosophical with the not-quite-mirror-images, it’s not her because it’s missing the Lana Turner Bangs covering the left eye. Plus the expression is quite open and yet a little fearful (to my eyes, anyway). Which doesn’t go with the whole Eleanor schtick.
I’m pleased that Anya was able to pull up the gumption to say “no” and mean it – and I noticed a couple of strips ago that she is sans collar – which I found significant. I’m with the person a few months ago who finally threw up her hands and gave up the argument about this relationship between Anya and Jacob. While I fully “get” that in your web-comic world this relationship isn’t harmful to Jacob, in ours there’s no question but the Anya would be justly classified as a child molester. Eleanor, in that regard, is way beyond simple molestation, given the master/slave situation she had going on with the two kids.
So the idea that she has (with some malice aforethought) acquired legal guardianship over the Jacob and Esther just appalls me. All I know about her personality I learned from this comic and “The Importance of Being Eleanor” having missed the boat on the Pirates stories – but she’s been a bit of an on-going question mark in my head from the get-go.
I love your art style – I love the other commenters that draw my attention to things like the marvelous cross-hatching and details that I would otherwise not really notice except as to how … PLEASING your comic is to my eye. Heh – the only thing you do persistently that fashes me is that butt-ugly librarian blouse that Anya favors – with the way it makes her breasts look saggy. But that also makes her look more human, so never mind. 🙂
You know, I can’t for the life of me remember exactly what she was saying. It was a scouting remark, I know that. Eleanor isn’t prejudiced. She thinks everyone is beneath her.
The face on the left is Eleanor, and the one on the right is Anya. Poor choice in eyeglasses, for one. Anya should’ve gone with the cat’s eye glasses.
And yes, she’s not wearing her collar this evening. Good eye, catching that. There’s a reason why, but I don’t want to reveal it just yet.
As far as Anya’s relationship with Jacob, I’m more interested with the practical considerations than the moral. Yes, it’s morally wrong. But it looks like-if Anya can thwart Eleanor-they may be together for a while. At least until Anya can come up with a better solution.
But what if Jacob ends up living with Anya? What’s going to happen when the infatuation lifts?
Will Anya be annoyed by Jacob’s immaturity? Will he be irritated by her attempts to parent him? Will they just find out that they don’t like each other? What happens when school starts? If Jacob falls for someone closer to his age? Or if Anya meets someone who appeals to her?
Eleanor, Eleanor, Eleanor… I think she works best as a secondary character (except in Utopia, Unlimited, where she’s the mercenary Space Captain). I may do another story with her as the central figure, but it’s going to be a while. In the meantime, bear with her. What she’s doing makes perfect sense. To her anyway.
Thank you! I try to do my best with the art. I’m slowly learning something new with every strip I draw.
And the blouses? I kinda like those. It plays to my “sexy librarian with glasses” love.
We’ll see Anya expand her wardrobe soon. Plus, it’s Summer Reading time at her local library, and that means more Summer Reading t-shirts and dressing up for programs.
Well, um, y’see, the thing is…
Utopia, Unlimited is a couple of adult comics that I did for Phil Foglio’s Xxxenophile Presents series back in the 90s.
It stars Eleanor, Toivo, Lyssa, and Geoffrey (who looks a lot like Prospero) and Eleanor’s robot Victoria, who looks a lot like her sister. Eleanor is the captain of the HMS Iolanthe, and she and her crew roam the galaxy getting contracts for the parent company, Utopia, Unlimited.
Oh, and they “fool around” a lot.
You can see a scan of the first issue here. They did it without permission. Warning: this is NSFW.
There aren’t a lot of copies left, I’m afraid. Someday I’ll scan the original two issues, and put up the never-before published 3rd sometime.
That wasn’t kind. I just stopped by for a second to review the comments and you had to throw that link in. I almost missed a meeting and now I have to go back and read the new / old comic!
I may have the last copies in existance, outside of some bargain bins in comic shops.
I also did some furry comics for “Shanda the Panda.” I can find some covers online, but no comics. Maybe I should scan those too…
Wow, I did not see that coming. Like I said Eleanor is many things. . .sneaky being one of them.
Anya passed her test and is paying the price.
Dang! I want to make a witty reply, but I can’t without giving something away.
Make sure to -save- that witty reply until it’s no longer a spoiler, so we can have it later!

Oh snap! And the blackmail begins.
At least Eleanor has simple demands.
Simple, yes. “Just do everything I say/be my slave.” ;P
You remember that list of words that describe Eleanor in yesterday’s comments?
Allow me to add “vindictive”.
I would add “loaded for bear.”

Terrible, terrifying, and sexy. Yep, that’s our Eleanor.
My goodness, Eleanor pulled a Ted Nugent. Isn’t that just charming.

Small town politics (and lots of money and favors) are how Eleanor got Jacob and Esther in the first place. Eleanor will explain a bit on Monday.
It depends on the Judge. If He or She heard what he (Jacob) and Anya have been doing. Well, let me put it this way, if she has any Diplomatic Immunity, that would be the Only thing keeping her out of jail and/or deported with prejudice. Mom and Dad would not be happy.

Ditto!!!!!!
Can I use that “fool me on a regular basis” line for a promo sometime? I promise I’ll credit you.
Absolutely! Consider this official permission.
In fact, if you saw what I told DaemonDan in The Demon Archives (yeah, I’m shameless), the same goes for you. 🙂

Why have I not heard of this Or did I miss it.
Either way, how can I get it!!!

well, that explains why I had not heard about it.
Still, I must have missed it when Phil had XXXenophile up and going.

Yes, It is a GOOD idea. Yes it is.
