Reade has issues.
Poor Robie. Stuck in the middle. At least they should get to Eleanor’s by the next installment. After that..?
Oh, and that handsome couple on the side of the semi? Why, that’s Doc and Raider, from Sean Martin’s awesome comic, titled, appropriately enough: Doc and Raider! I think you’ll really enjoy checking it out.
One thing though. Doc and Raider are… well, they’re… how should I put this?
They’re Canadian.
I really feel for Robbie there. And this is quite a sobering conversation for Edison. She is not having the best of days…
Nice cameo there!
Thanks! Yeah, poor li’l Robie. Stuck between these two. He just wants a quiet ride and a lot of food. And Stephanie.
Is that a tear flying from Edison’s eyes? Either something really hit home or she’s feeling a ton of personal guilt. Maybe both. I think we all feel the same as Robie does right about now. Looks like she and Reade aren’t going to become besties anytime soon.
Good eye, melaredblu. Yes, that’s a tear. For Reade’s family and her own.
I can’t see the two of them becoming friends anytime soon. Maybe after someone gets out of rehab…
Thanks for adding the backlinks. Though given all we’ve seen of Edison, Reade is hardly wrong, since Edison hasn’t really gotten past AA’s first step.
I think Reade needs to remember that Edison is not her ex…
Reade is pounding Edison with her baggage, isn’t she?
I actually think Reade is good for Edison, a “mirror” of the pain caused and feeling for both of them. They’ll either hate each other or be the best ‘Snark Buddies’ in the world.
Reade may not be saying the things Edison wants to hear, but she is saying the things Edison needs to hear.
Reade is also saying all the things that Philo would like to say.
Reade may be subtle as a tractor in a library, but maybe Edison needs someone like her in her life. Larry sure isn’t going to give it to her straight like this. The best Stephanie can hope to do is guilt her, and even Eleanor, who we know is capable of it, doesn’t.
By the way, love Reade’s car.
“Subtle as a tractor in a library” is a great phrase, and one I shall use again.
You’re right about Larry and Stephanie. They won’t ever go as full nuclear on Edison as Reade will. But then, they don’t have her history of pain, and they’re not living with the aftermath.
And thanks about the van! Cars are really tough for me sometimes, even though they were the second thing I ever learned to draw (after dinosaurs, of course).
I like how it turned out. With two kids, Reade would have a van or a station wagon.
Edison’s self-pitying defense of her actions really hit Reade’s hot button, and she seems to be taken aback by Reade’s bitter response. The whole purpose of being constantly drunk is to avoid thinking about all that stuff, and she’s two whole bubbles short of not caring.
Reade obviously has more than one reason for doing what she’s doing, and I’m looking forward to finding out what all (or at least, most) of them are. 🙂
Edison’s remark really did hit one of Reade’s hot buttons. But then, if Edison had tried to argue or fight, Reade probably would’ve taken it up a couple of notches. Edison’s usual response to this kind of confrontation is to attempt to leave.
And Reade does have a number of reasons for her anger. She’s not just yelling at Edison, either.
Yeah, poor Robbie. At least they’re getting all this out of their systems before showing up. Maybe?
That truck smuggling illegal immigrants! Those sneaky Canadians.
And, Reade’s van is the greatest. I want one.
Ha-ha. I think Reade might just be warming up. We’ll see.
And yes, Doc & Raider are notorious smugglers! Smugglers of comic hilarity and biting social commentary, that is.
Thanks about the van. I’m digging it too.
Sometimes I have more sympathy for Edison than others. Today’s strip gets a Low Sympathy rating. I don’t think she did “get it” before, but she might be on her way.
She “gets it,” but that doesn’t mean she wants to act upon it.
On the other hand, she doesn’t want to hurt Larry and Stephanie like she did Philo, and like Reade’s ex hurt her.
