Well, would you look at that. Somebody bested Miffy, more or less.
As soon as Hibiki wrote the line “do you poop in a box?,” I knew I had to do this strip. It was just one of those times when the character feeds you a line. Stephanie does it all the time.
Coming up next week-if you think Hibiki got the better of Miffy, you ain’t seen nothing yet. Plus, many new words and phrases!
Pre-feline Miffy, huh? Need to think about that. Could she pronounce S’s in those days? What accident? Hibiki is sort of ‘innocently’ catty herself, if only in a good cause. How closely do she and Makoto follow the personalities of the original characters you’re fanning? So many interrogatories…
Ah Pops, we’ve hinted at Miffy’s past in the past. Suffice to say she wasn’t born like that. Could she pronounce her “s’s” back then? You know, I never thought about it.
All will be revealed in the fullness of time, probably.
Hibiki plays the Bratty Li’l Sister role quite well, I think. She and Makoto are actually original characters. We may see more of them in the future as well.
I had googled the names Hibiki and Makoto and seen they were characters in manga (or anime?) with an apparently convoluted plot involving a goddess and maybe the fate of the universe. I didn’t follow the links, but assumed these were characters you were adopting for a bit as homage.
Wow! Was it “Tsuki ga Michibiku Isekai Douchuu?” I’ve never heard of that one. I’m gonna check it out!
The name Makoto is from the lead in “Shinpi no Sekai El-Hazard,” or, “El Hazard: The Magnificent World.” It’s an oldie but a goodie. I had been listening to the music and the Drama CDs, and the name just stuck.
Hibiki comes from “Love, Comedy Style,” a, well, somewhat silly adult sex comedy ero-manga by the master of the over-the-top facial expressions, Yanagi Masashi. I liked the main character, and went with that name.
That was it! First thing google handed me when I entered just Hibiki Makoto. There seem to be other, different works further down the list as well, which include one or both names. I have no idea if these are common Japanese names or not.
I’m glad these two are entirely your own, so I won’t be missing any backstory references. Well, except the backstory that you’ve envisioned but not spelled out for us yet. And there is a whole boatload you ain’t spelled out for us yet!
I don’t know how much I’m going to show of these two. It’s not like I don’t have a huge cast of zanies with scads of interesting stories left to tell already.
