Whoops.
Hey, Happy New Year! Hope it’s one of your best ever!
Coming next week (man, it’s been a while since I’ve been able to say that), everyone returns home… to a big surprise. Stay tuned!

I re-fuse to accept that title.
Well played, my friend, well played.
One of the original titles was “50 Vamp Fuse,” but it wasn’t punny enough.
Great minds with but a single thought. Well, our minds, anyway…
Charlie, seeing you back in the groove (kinda) is such a great Christmas present!
Thank you, Pops! Merry Christmas!
It’s been a treat for me to get back in the groove. We’ll see how far into 2026 we can go!
Staring at crosshatch and other tone work:
I never consciously noticed the discombobulatiotron has squiggley hatches like burl grain, but it’s always been there and it looks right, so I must have noticed subconsciously.
And VVictoria’s dress is interesting. I can’t blow it up enough on my phone without it going fuzzy, but it looks like a dense crossword puzzle grid, or maybe a QR code.
I *like* looking at details!
Good eye, Pops! Yeah, the discombobulationotron doorway is just my pathetic attempt at wood grain. I think I’ll have a better one in the future (spoiler alert-I’m working on it today).
I was originally gonna draw a pattern on Victoria’s dress, but decided to download a Victorian pattern. I think I made it too small.
If you like crosshatching and stippling, have I got a treat for you coming up!
I look forward to it!
I learned about wood grain — mostly veneer, but some solid wood — when dealing with doors and panelling for an upscale office design. What you see depends in part on the kind of tree, in part on how you slice it. The wild, swirly grain is from where multiple large branches form a crotch, or from the very base of the tree where the roots come in and jumble up the grain. Very expensive, but that means little to Sampson Enterprises, I’m sure.
“Very expensive, but that means little to Sampson Enterprises, I’m sure.”
Or Eleanor. Nothing but the best for her, darling.
You know way more about wood grain than I, my friend. We’ll see the discombobulationotron again soon, and the grain will have changed. I was practicing grain, so it looks a bit different. Oh well, what matters is if everyone gets where they’re going. And what happens after that. Especially for Stephanie.
Rad Sampson is willing and able to pay whatever bills Eleanor racks up, and I’d guess he’s the one person who is largely immune to her strength of will, so either the money means little to him or Eleanor provides value that outweighs the cost. There must be backstory there, BUT DON’T GET DISTRACTED!
Not at all, Pops.
You’ll see.
